Space Invaders was designed by Tomohiro Nishikado and released by Taito in 1978. It is one of the earliest shoot-em-up games and arguably the most influential arcade title of its era, sparking the golden age of arcade gaming and inspiring an entire generation of shoot-em-up titles that followed.
Our browser version keeps the tense rhythm of the original — descending waves of aliens, the accelerating drumbeat as fewer enemies remain, and the pressure to hit every target before they reach you. Clear each wave to advance, and try to set a new high score without losing all three lives.
Controls: Use the Arrow Keys or A/D to move your ship left and right. Press SPACE to shoot. On mobile, use the on-screen controls to move and fire.
Objective: Destroy every alien on the screen before they reach the bottom or eliminate your lives. Each cleared wave sends a faster, more aggressive formation.
